The Calamari Sisters will return to Auburn for the ninth time this weekend with the show that started it all: “Cooking with the Calamari Sisters.”
Bickering Italian sisters Delphine and Carmela Calamari are introduced in the show, which takes place during their public access cooking program. Like subsequent “Calamari Sisters” shows, “Cooking” mixes jokes about Catholicism, food and Italian-American culture with audience participation and music. Its soundtrack of Italian classics includes “Que Sera Sera,” “That’s Amore” and “Mambo Italiano.”
“Cooking” is the first show in the series, which was created by Jay Falzone, Dan Lavender and Stephen Smith. They presented it at Auburn Public Theater in 2011 as part of a pilot run there by the Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival.
