Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Thursday $41.26 million in support to arts and cultural organizations in New York state.
The 2017 New York State Council on the Arts grants support not only the creation of visual, performing, literary and media arts, but also arts education, economic development through the arts and cultural programs for underserved populations.
“These grants reinforce New York’s role as a global cultural destination, promote learning for all ages, cultivate creativity, and build community,” Cuomo said in a news release. “From world-renowned cultural centers like Carnegie Hall to high-quality public art programs, in-school arts education and free performances, New York is a hub of cultural activity and artistic talent, and we must ensure that art is accessible to all New Yorkers.”
The central New York region received a total of $1,498,838 in funding. Among the 1,200 organizational recipients were seven in the Cayuga County area:
• $39,000 to Auburn Public Theater for general support, $7,500 for support of its music series and $127,200 for its Finger Lakes Community Arts Grants program, a five-county decentralization grant program of NYSCA ($38,160 for administration, $89,040 to regrant).
