Olivia Gatwood wants to break down stigmas on relationships, gender inequality and violence when she arrives at Auburn Public Theater.

The 26-year-old poet and author of “New American Best Friend” will perform at the downtown venue Sunday. Gatwood, of Albuquerque, believes she had been through Auburn while touring before, but she isn’t sure. Although she recently spent three years talking to college students about sex education, this will mark her first year traveling to music venues.

The show will feature some poems by Gatwood that people may have seen on social media, as her work has gone viral before. Seeing her own work while scrolling through social media feeds is amazing, she said. She was the only person in her friend group interested in poetry while growing up, so she is continually surprised to see people who respond to poems.
