Vance Gilbert, a performer with a reputation for showstopping live sets, will mark his next one at Auburn Public Theater Saturday, April 15.

Coming onto the scene as the opening act for Shawn Colvin’s 1992 “Fat City” tour, Gilbert was described after one stop as having “the voice of an angel, the wit of a devil and the guitar playing of a god” by The Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

He has since released several albums, starting with “Edgewise” (1994), “Fugitives” (1995) and “Shaking Off Gravity” (1998). His 2000 live album, “Somerville Live,” was called an album that “young songwriters should study the way law students cram for bar exams” by The Boston Globe.
