Kelly Chambala and Beth Beer Cuddy share a history of storytelling.

It brought them together as reporters at The Citizen 20 years ago, led them to careers as librarians afterward, and takes them to Auburn Public Theater Friday as hosts of the podcast “Strange Country.” That night in the theater’s Stage Right space, Chambala and Cuddy will record a live version of the podcast, which covers true but unusual stories that they’ve researched.

The podcast started about a year ago, said Chambala, of Tully, in a phone interview Wednesday. After she and Cuddy, of Auburn, reunited at a 40th birthday party for Chambala, the two realized they were at similar stages in their lives. Their children had grown, Chambala said, and so they were seeking a new outlet for their storytelling instincts.
