The Rev. Patrick Heery lightheartedly broke the ice at an Auburn Pride Week event in a way that matched the event’s title: “Meet Your LGBTQ Neighbors Public Panel.”

Heery, pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church, moderated the panel, which took place Tuesday at Auburn Public Theater. In a reference to the show “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,” Heery sang “It’s a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” and donned a red sweater on the theater’s Main Stage.

Around 70 people came to the theater to engage with and listen to the panel of 11 LGBTQ community members talk about their experiences, and what they wish people knew about gender identity and sexuality. It was the fifth event held in June to celebrate Pride Month in Auburn.
