Peter Mack and the Macktet will perform two concerts in Auburn over the next several weeks. Considering the style of music the group performs, those two concerts could be wildly different.

Mack, the seven-piece group’s bassist, assembled it about two years ago as “the ultimate bebop group possible in central New York,” he said Wednesday.

A style of jazz, bebop is defined by fast tempos, instrumental virtuosity and improvisation. The Berkelee-trained Mack found six performers with whom he can live up to that “ultimate” billing in pianist Dino Losito, of Elmira; trumpeter Paul Merrill and guitarist Steve Brown, of Ithaca; trombonist Melissa Gardiner and tenor saxophonist Joe Carello, of Syracuse; and drummer Mike Melito, of Rochester.
