AUBURN — For years, Auburn Public Theater has prided itself on offering affordable, accessible films in its cinema space downtown. But starting in 2017, the nonprofit will try something new, screening two free films a week.

On Tuesday, Jan. 3, APT will feature its first “Classic Film Tuesday,” showing the 1935 comedy “A Night at the Opera” in hopes of catering to an older audience. Then, on Friday, Jan. 6, the 65-seat cinema will screen the 2009 family film “The Gruffalo” as part of its new “Friday Toddler Film” series.
